What can a public audit of your WordPress site reveal?

By Antoine Le Louët · Estimated reading : 4 min · References

A theme, plugins and content contribute to the page visitors receive. Start with that visible result to decide what to investigate in WordPress.

Argos analyses one public URL, with no administrator account or plugin to install. WordPress detection, when available, remains a probable indication based on public traces.

From public evidence to WordPress checks

Loading and resources

Lab measurements, loaded page weight and observed errors can flag a costly page. They do not identify the responsible plugin or theme on their own.

Next check: Review images and scripts added by your theme and plugins, then compare the same URL after a controlled change.

Titles and SEO signals

HTML exposes signals such as the title, meta description and indexing instructions. A setting in an SEO plugin does not prove the published HTML is correct.

Next check: Check the delivered content and the theme and SEO plugin settings before correcting the relevant tags.

HTTP security

HTTPS and protective headers can be observed on the public page, depending on available checks. Their presence does not prove there are no vulnerabilities.

Next check: Share the evidence with your host or developer to adapt the configuration and check compatibility with site resources.

Content accessibility

Automated checks can flag images without alternatives or fields without accessible names. They do not validate the entire journey.

Next check: Correct the media, blocks or theme, then check keyboard navigation and whether alternative text makes sense.

A banner image to investigate

Page: a WordPress service page
Finding: an informative image has no alt attribute

Suggested correction: Add a meaningful alternative in the media library or the block displaying the image. A decorative image needs an empty alt attribute; do not automatically describe every image.

Verify afterwards: Inspect the rendered element on the published page, then rerun that URL. A value saved in the media library may not be used by the theme.

What to check in your WordPress environment

  1. Plugins and theme

Inventory components with your developer and test changes in staging. A visible script is not a reliable inventory of installed plugins.

  2. Caching and hosting

Review cache configuration and compare several loads under comparable conditions. One measurement cannot attribute slow loading to your host.

  3. Maintenance

Check updates, backups and restoration with the appropriate access. The public audit does not verify their availability or operation.

Limits of this diagnosis

  • No exhaustive scan of plugins, versions or vulnerabilities; no analysis of the database or wp-admin.
  • One URL at one point in time. Unavailable modules remain visible; missing results do not mean a pass.
  • Suggested corrections require human review. No SEO ranking or business improvement is guaranteed.
