Automated checks on a public URL

Automated accessibility test of a page

By Antoine Le Louët · Estimated reading : 4 min · References

Identify detectable problems on a public URL and prepare the human checks that complement the report.

The form runs the existing Argos audit, including its available automated accessibility checks. It does not issue an RGAA or WCAG compliance certificate.

What you can read in the report

Image alternatives

The HTML check measures alt attribute coverage. Their presence does not guarantee that the text usefully describes an image or that a decorative image is handled correctly.

Names and structure

HTML checks and available Lighthouse findings may identify links, fields or buttons without accessible names and structural problems. They do not cover every interactive state.

Automated score

The Lighthouse Accessibility score is a signal from one tool. The Argos Accessibility domain combines weighted checks. Neither score validates real user journeys or compliance across an entire site.

Example: an informative image without an alternative

Fictional HTML from an atelier.example product page. The fragment is displayed as text, without reproducing an inaccessible image on this page.

Illustrative evidence

How to read it: The html.images.alt_coverage check identifies a missing alt attribute. The corrected text depends on the image’s role within the page.

Suggested correction: Describe the useful information conveyed by an informative image. For a purely decorative image, use an empty alternative after checking its role; do not automatically apply the same recipe to every image.

What to check next: Read the page with a screen reader and test keyboard actions, focus, error messages and magnified display. Check that alternatives make sense alongside the surrounding content.

Limits to keep in mind

Automation detects only some problems. A high score does not demonstrate the absence of barriers, the inapplicability of a criterion or RGAA/WCAG compliance. The dedicated resource explains the French and European context separately.
